BioThe Basic Intro
Much of this journal is 'friends' locked since my writing isn't really edited or ready for public consumption. A lot of the work needs a LOT of editing and revising.
I appreciate comments and encouragement... and would love to know that people are reading my work... though I do feel like a lot of it needs a lot of work...
My Influences
My influences come from a wide range of places. I used to read...no, devour books when I was growing up. I adored Peter S Beagle's 'The Last Unicorn', Tolkien's "The Hobbit", Ursula K LeGuin's "EarthSea" and Anne McCaffery's "Dragon Singer" Series. I've also been an avid reader of Charles DeLint, Mercedes Lackey, Tanya Huff and other gread fantasy writers.
In high school, I began reading comic books and graphic novels. I used to want to become a comic book artist and writer, like many of my favorite independent comic book artist during the 90's, like Terry Moore, author/artist of "Strangers in Paradise" and Alan Davis of "Excalibur". From there, of couse, I moved into what ever anime was available in a the time, like Robotech, Voltron and Sailor Moon. I simply adore Hayao Miyazaki and watch his works on a regular basis.
My Writing History
I've been drawing as well as writing with a passion since I was in Middle School. I wrote my first Novela as a class project in 7th Grade. I have worked on many different stories, only a few of them finished, since then. In high school and college I worked on a series of short stories I called the Dreamwalker Series, inspired by Charles De Lint's style of Urban Fantasy. During the two years st my community college I recieved an award for a poem, short storie and essay as well as the English Medal at my graduation. I submitted my works to a few magazines, but didn't pursue it for long.
After college I wrote some fan fiction based on Final Fantasy, which introduced me to the world of online communities. For years I worked on an online project called 'Dragons Breath', where I wrote round robin style with a few other authors. I also started an online comic based in the world of Dragons Breath, called Firebrand.
I reached a bit of a burn out with my online projects a few years ago, and have just been writing bits and pieces in this journal since then. I hope to write and illustrate a children's book at some point. I'm also planning on attending a writer's group at the local community college with my little sister. Most my writing right now consists of very short journal entries that are mainly vivid dreams. I've discovered that since I can't write or draw like I used to anymore, my subconscience is writing stories for me in my dreams.
Me in General
Right now, I'm mainly the mother of a beautiful little boy and wife of a very hard working man. I go on walks in my small home town almost daily. I love to cook, which I have to thank Rachel Ray for. I work part time in the evenings at our small local newspaper, which is both fun and frustrating. I have four cats and live in a double wide moble home with a lovely deck.
